Meet Carmela! Get to know Team SpacetoCo

Carmela Makalio

Welcome back to Meet Team SpacetoCo, where we get to know the beautiful faces behind our incredible software!

This month, say g'day to to our marketing and all round life queen (how DOES she do it all???)  Carmela Makalio ✨

Where are you from and where are you based?
I am originally from the land with the best mangoes - the Philippines. I am now happily based in Ōtautahi (Christchurch) New Zealand!

What do you do at SpacetoCo?
I am proud to be on SpacetoCo's marketing team. I run the social media and the monthly webinars we have, the CoLab.

What's the best thing about working at SpacetoCo?
The best thing about working at SpacetoCo is that it never feels like a job! I enjoy what I do and am surrounded by an awesome team, but more importantly a great set of managers that look after us and care about our life beyond SpacetoCo as well. I love the creativity I get to implement in the work I do in both the design, as well as the webinars.

Favourite local venue?
My favourite local venue will have to be the Christchurch Tūranga Library!

What do you do in your free time?
Free time??? What is that? Do you ever get free time if you're a mom? (LOL just kidding, but really.... 👀). In my free time, I enjoy thrifting, getting creative and crafty with things around the house, I enjoy reading if I find a good book!

L-R: Carmela with a bouquet, MCing at a youth event, making people laugh as always, with her daughter Elena and husband Viane and with ice cream, of course!

What's your life hack tip?
Life hack tip? If you're looking for a deep life, my one is to never have any expectations. You will reduce disappointment but also enjoy it more then things go waaaaay better than you expected (cause you had zero expectations = everything is therefore great because you only have up from there lol - I hope that made sense??? English is my second language). General life hacks? Always bring baby wipes - you never know how handy it can be for anyone... and any and ALL situations 👀

What's number one on your bucket list?
I don't actually have a bucket list, but if I were to think of one, it'd be to go on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land

What's a book, podcast or movie you would recommend, and why?
I'm currently reading a poetry book called "Honey & Water" by Jessanah Lupe Betham. Its beautiful and wrecking me at the moment.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?
It's all coming back to me now - Celine Dion (I'm Filipino... it has to be our power ballad queen) 🎤

What are you most grateful for in life?
Cheese alert ❗I'm most grateful for my husband and children and the simple, yet full life we have built together! ❤️

Told you she was awesome! Stay tuned for our next interview with sales extraordinaire Ian Johnson  😎
